One of the biggest bugbears affecting business customers is the ridiculous variation in termination periods by energy providers.  Some will accept just 1 months notice, whilst others expect 3 or even 4 months.  You might think that you can beat the system by terminating as soon as the supply starts… but no, you cannot… most have a minimum period or window, when you can terminate.  Of course, these periods also vary widely.  Failure to terminate in time exposes businesses to high roll-over rates that are often self-perpetuating!
It should be noted that even if you might want to stay with your current provider, it make absolute sense give notice at the right time.
